Our Journey With Baiq
Baiq has five brothers and is the only girl in her family. She did very well at High School but was unable to go on to university since there was no money to pay for further study. Her father passed away when she was still at school and her mother worked as a farmer to support the family but had to stop because of physical weakness and growing older.
After completing school because she enjoyed designing and making clothes she used this talent to make a small income however this was not her vision for her life. Baiq always wanted to become a teacher. She enjoyed working with children, and would love to teach and inspire them.
Baiq was able to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher through sponsorship with Lenka Sisters, to fund her studies at Hamzanwadi University, studying an Elementary Education degree.
More Recently
Baiq performed very well in her studies and completed her thesis in December 2023 and graduated in January 2024. We are so pleased with the commitment to learning and becoming a teacher that Baiq has shown.
She cemented a job as a teacher working with children with disabilities soon after graduating. She continues to pursue her other interests including her passion for designing and making clothes for herself and friends and family.
Baiq has enjoyed volunteering as a witness in the recent Presidential elections in Indonesia in February 2024. She is an active community member and a wonderful person and role model for girls and women in her village.
