Our Journey with Sanah
When we first met Hasanah (Sanah) she was still in highschool. Sanah has been an important figure in the development of Lenka Sisters. After meeting her in Lendang Nangka, whilst visiting her Grandfather and talking to her about her passions and future prospects we found out that she would likely stay in her village after school, quickly get married and have children soon. She is the youngest of nine children and her father's work provided a small income, not large enough to cover the financial costs of attending university.

Sanah's intrigue and desire for wanting to learn was inspiring. We felt a strong connection to her and wanted to work to support her through university if this was possible. From meeting Sanah the idea of Lenka Sisters was formed. We wanted to help Sanah create a different, fulfilling future for herself.

We supported Sanah covering the costs of her undergraduate and masters degree. She was an exemplary student and a great role model for the girls in her village. She has inspired and supported several other girls to follow in her footsteps to go on to tertiary education.

More Recently
Sanah completed her undergraduate degree majoring in social economic science from University of Mataram in January 2018. Graduating from university was a huge achievement for Sanah as she was the first person in her family to attend university.
In 2021 she moved from Lombok to study a Masters of Education at Yogyakarta University. This is an amazing accomplishment.
Sanah has benefited and blossomed in so many ways from going to university. Since graduating she has married and has a beautiful daughter. She works as a school teacher as well as running a small business which helps to support her mother.

The benefits of her education extend further into the community.
Sanah has taken on many leadership roles as well as supporting other girls into tertiary education. She would like to create a Womens Centre in her community where women can meet and educate themselves and support each others business endeavours.
